US Dollar to Leone Exchange Rate from 2013 to 2023

Some people have been posting some strange data about the depreciation of the Leone using the Dollar to Leone Exchange Rate. I deceided to do a quick investigation:

Using data from the Currency Portal XE, I copied the Exchange rate between the Leone and the Dollar from the 1st of June 2013 to the 1st of June 2023, a 10 year period. [Sierra Leonean Leone to US Dollar Exchange Rate Chart | Xe]

I then set 1st of June 2013 as Year 0 and plotted the points every 2 years until 2023 to give a 10-year period.

• On the 1st of June 2013, 1 US Dollar was 4.35 New Leones.
• On the 1st of June 2015, 1 US Dollar was 4.35 New Leones.
• On the 1st of June 2017, 1 US Dollar was 7.14 New Leones.
• On the 1st of June 2019, 1 US Dollar was 9.09 New Leones.
• On the 1st of June 2021, 1 US Dollar was 10.20 New Leones.
• On the 1st of June 2023, 1 US Dollar was 22.73 New Leones.

I used the forecast function in Excel to predict the rate on the 1st of June 2024, if the current trends continue — 40 New Leones.
